Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189)

The Skilled Independent visa is a permanent visa that allows skilled workers to live and work in Australia indefinitely. This visa is points-tested and does not require sponsorship by a relative, or state/territory nomination.

Visa Requirements:

To apply for this visa, you must have:

  1. An occupation that is in the Medium and Long term Strategic Skills List.
  2. Obtained a suitable skills assessment for your nominated occupation.
  3. At least competent English.
  4. Lodged an EOI and been invited to apply for this visa.
  5. Not turned 45 years of age when you received an invitation to apply.
  6. Achieved the pass mark on the skilled migration points test, currently 65 points
  7. Good health and character.

Including Family Members:

You can include the following family members in your application:

  1. Your partner
  2. Your dependent children/stepchildren or your partner's dependent children/stepchildren
